Are You in Safe While Moving in Reverse?

Hi Dear Reader,
This week, I am going to tell about the problems which we experience while we are moving in reverse.

Probably many of us had to move in reverse in order to take the road from outer court of office, house or farm. Some of us may has trouble when going to work or going back to home (such as me).Every morning When leaving the site,  I have to move in reverse to take the road. The biggest problem is that while moving in reverse, although half of the car is on the road, I can't still see the main road exactly in order to be sure whether any vehicle comes or not.

as you see the photo below, If this white car's driver want to take the road, he has to moving in reverse. Even if half of the car is on the road, driver can't see anything and can't be sure whether the road is available or not.



There are some blind spot mirrors for these type problems. Also some demonstrations are prepared for these problems and are shared with drivers. I share them to you, too.



As you see the photo above, The car which is described with red arrow is moving in reverse. A car which is described with blue arrow closes the our car. In this photo and in this position, you may think the car driver with red arrow can see the the car with blue arrow, but you are wrong.Unfortunately, he can't see the car.

If you check the photo below, you will see that the side rearview mirror can't reflect the car. Original interior rearview mirror can't reflect anything, too. However while you analyze the next photo, you can notice the car on the mirror easily.







On photos above, owing to reflecting wider area, mirror can provide the driver to see more area. In addition, it reflects the half of the driver window.
Moreover you can see the car behind you easily. So you can see the cars on main road without turning your head left or right, looking back constantly. This mirror has many advantages, but since our topic is moving in reverse, I don't want to digress.

Does Really Blind Spot Mirrors Show Your Blind Spots?

Today's post is about blind spot mirrors and whether they are useful or not.
When someone mention blind spot mirrors, probably the first comes in your mind a blind spot mirrors which are sticked on the exterior rearview mirror (side mirror) and which are small mirrors. I share a photo for ones who can't remember:

I try to tell shortly whether they are really effective or not. I tell item by item in order to be more clear.
1. Littleness Problematic:
What does littleness problematic? Let me brief, but before, I need to explain blind spots. Blind spot mirrors' goal is providing drivers to see blind spot. In order to remove the blind spots, there are many techniques. Each mirror tries to remove blind spots by showing all areas; but it is impossible because it has to force objects into the screen (mirror glass). This means objects will be smaller than what they appear.
Thes blind spot mirror normally is small. Just imagine a water bottle cover. Now imagine it on your side mirrors. Then think about that this mirror claim it will remove blind spots. Do you believe it?
2. Photography Problematic:
After reading previous item, if you think "there is no problem, it looks good", you are wrong. Normally this type photography is a technique in order to cheat you. Everyone who drive vehicles and don't drive know that driver's eye level is not like what is seen on the photo. Normal eye level is upper and more behind than the one on photo. İmage that you look this photo upper and more behind. Still do you think this mirrors will helpful?
3. "Is this a really blind spot mirror?" Problematic:
For the last time, let us interpret by using this photo. If they didn't put the little and small mirror on the side mirror, we would have seen white truck clearer than what is seen on the photo. In addition, it can't show the white truck completely; it loses some parts of truck. It is really hard to describe this mirror as a blind spot mirrors.
We think it will be wrong by using one photo and we decide that we support our opinions by using different photos.We think you will find the problems on the photos below. Here you are:

How To Remove Blind Spots -1

Today I am going to tell you how to remove blind spots. As you know, all drivers experience this problem. They can't see some points while driving. They can't see because available mirrors is not enough to reflect the blind spots.

There are a lot of technics in order to removing blind spots. I mention one of them.

PANORAMIC (COVER) MIRRORS

I think some of you watch rallies. You may see their interior mirror. It looks like:

 

It is used as blind spot mirrors but  as you see, it is not effective about reflecting the blind spots. 

Also it has a difficult setup way. 

I mention Panoramic (Cover) Mirrors. Firstly I am going to share Pnoramic Mirror Photo.

As you see, the pnoramic mirror has two elastics its back and mirror glass is convexed. Its setup is very simple. If your car has a interior rearview mirror, you just cover original interior mirror by using two elastics.

When you check the original rearview mirror, it reflects very limited area. However when you start to use panoramic mirror, you will see more area.

Sometimes, we have to move in reverse with our car and we find ourselves in traffic. 

So, are we safe? do you think you are safe while you are moving in reverse?

Absolutely you are not safe. Please check the photo below.

Fiat Linea move in reverse in this photo and Polo is in traffic. Linea is going to join traffic but is it really safe? What do you think, can driver see the Polo in his rearview mirrors? Check the photo below.

What is a Convex Mirror?

A convex mirror is a thing which curves outward. So it curves toward you. Mostly this type mirror are known as diverging mirrors. It is know like that because when light mirrors off of them, the rays move in opposite directions. In comparison with concave mirrors that curve inward, cause reflected rays to converge after reflection. Another unique aspect of convex mirrors is that they make virtual images. They can be expanded to meet the image position but do not naturally go through it on their own, when the light rays are reflected.

Today I read an article about eliminating blind spot. They explain the method in 6 steps. It is a very good method. I appreciate them. However there is no need those steps. Why? Before explaining why, please let me share that article with you.

How to Set Rear‐View Mirrors to Eliminate Blind Spots

It may surprise you to learn that there is a better way to set the rearview mirrors on your car. The quick test: if you look in your side mirrors and you see the side of the car, then you're not using the mirror's capacity! Essentially, most people have a huge overlap between the center and side rearview mirrors, which is unnecessary. By spreading your side mirrors you lose no information about what's behind you, but gain valuable insight into what's beside you.

Steps

Lean your head over until it almost touches the driver's window, and then position the side mirror on the car's left side so you can just see the rear quarterpanel (the rear end of the car) in the mirror. Note this will have it positioned farther out than you probably had it before.

Lean your head to the right to align it with the center of the car, for example, just between the 2 front seats, at your normal height. From there, position the right side mirror so you can just see the rear quarterpanel of the passenger side in the mirror.

Adjust the center rearview mirror to place it facing the center of the rear window.

While driving note that a car passing you begins in the center of your rearview mirror. As it approaches you, it moves to the side of your center rear view mirror, and at the same time appears in your side mirror. This shows you that there is no rear blind spot, because there is an overlap between the mirrors.

Also note that your side mirrors now capture a tremendous additional amount of information about what is in the lanes right next to your car. Previously you would have to turn your head to ensure nothing was in the lanes beside your car before changing lanes. Now, your side mirrors do a much better job of covering this blind spot on the sides.
